Feel good movement for mums - post natal pilates
Post Natal Classes are currently on hold.
***********
A class dedicated to mums to help you recover from childbirth and to set you up for life and beyond. With time being precious, I want to make sure you get the most out of a class and out of a movement experience which is why I've developed a formula that is different from any other class.
You could say this is a fusion of styles - at it's heart is Pilates but at it's soul is movement for mums. This means a combination of Pilates with some elements of fitness (lunges, squats and the such like) to not only contribute to strength but also to give it that Barefoo4life signature FEEL GOOD feeling.
There's also an element of flexibiilty in the lesson plan for when we're in a physical space. This means that when babies are getting a bit bored we mix the class up and do something that keeps them entertained to. This isn't singing, that's a different class and best for you that I don't, it's about feel good movement for you. So we either grab a sling and do standing work which babies generally love or we integrate them safely into your movement experience. Happy babies, happy mum and vice versa.
As a Polestar Pilates teacher that is pre and post natally certified through Burrell Education, you get that perfect blend of Pilates with pelvic floor and core work that Burrell Education is famous for.

I’ve been going to postnatal Pilates classes with Carrie for four months and they are absolutely brilliant. They have really helped me to regain some core and pelvic floor strength after giving birth. Carrie is a great teacher. She gives everyone individual attention, she plans classes that give you lots of energy and are different each week and she is great with the babies! I would highly recommend these classes - everyone is really friendly and you can go at your own pace depending how your body feels. Thank you Carrie!" Emma, July 2019
What can you expect from the class and who's it for?
- develop pelvic floor strength for every day movement
- develop tone and core control, healing diastesis rectus (abdominal separation)
- mobilise and strengthen the spine
- release and strengthen the upper and lower body
- realign gait for your post natal body
- improve posture in sitting, standing and for every day movement such as walking, running, sitting to standing, twisting, rotating and combinations thereof
If you've not done Pilates before, there really is no better time to start. The class is for mums and babies up to crawling age as it can be a bit of a juggle thereafter. That said, a few mums have bought toddlers with them and kept them busy on an iPad or with toys. If you're happy and get to move, thumbs up. Also if you're a bit further down the line post natally, you're still welcome to come. Babies are not mandatory ;).
When can you start?
You can start after you've been signed off by your GP at your 6 week postpartum check up or 12 week if you've had a c-section.
A health questionnaire will need to be completed before class (by email) and Carrie will show you how to conduct an assessment for diastesis before hand.
